About Us and Our History

What is SCg

SCg Shoe Company is the first rider owned shoe company, officially established in 1999, but the first sketches started in 1998. 

Steven Caro began SCg in Greenville NC, with SCg's roots in BMX and flat pedal shoes. 

That said, SCg has always been a part of outdoor action sports. BMX, MTB, skateboarding, motocross, auto racing, hiking and surfing. We've been committed to the outdoors from the start.

As a company we've been commited to helping grow the outdoor lifestyle. From helping to build skateparks, dirt parks, maintaining mountain bike trails, working with organizations, counties, towns, and states to advocate for outdoor recreation, and to maintain the sustainable use of it.

We've had vegan options from the start. We're working on collab shoes to help support charities.

Supporting minorities and the LGBTQ+ community is important to us. Everyone deserves to be treated equally, outdoors, or indoors.

We use our love of bikes to help spread our message and support what we believe in.

From Last Century to Today

1998

The First Drawings

A blown up brand new shoe of a brand not be named sparks the fire to start a shoe company.

1999

The Tyrant

SCG Shoe Company launches as the first rider-owned BMX shoe company. Even the first model was stitched all the way around to prevent delamination.


2001

The Gold Standard

Team rider Bruce Crisman takes the gold at the X-Games in a pair of SCg Shoes.

2003

The World

Team rider Alejandaro Caro is invited to compete at Global X-Games dirt contest.

2005

The Expansion

The first expansion of the SCg line to three models.

2007

The Warehouse

SCg Warehouse in Greenville, NC. By this time there had been about 34 Pro BMX riders, 21 Gold Medals from Greenville.

2010

The Mistake

The partner factory in Asia made a crucial mistake that could have destroyed the company. All production moves to Colombia, leaving all Asian parts behind. The beginnings of controlling the entire process begin.

2014

The Sound Off

The signature Sound model was introduced. The introduction of the fully custom outsole and continuing the tradition of gluing and stitching continues.

2015

The Middle

The Mid is introduced, offering more ankle protection & support.

2016

The Leather

Leather versions of the models are introduced with a renewed focus on MTB.
